About Me

Welcome to The New Canadians  Blog,  about Canada, the food, places to live, work and play, and life experience from the lens and perspectives of new Canadians.

Hello, I am a mother of two living in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

I started this blog 10 years ago as a business/career blog, with tips on how to start a business in Canada, and how to apply and get jobs, and the occasional success immigrant stories. However, as work pressure increased, my blogging time dwindled to nothing. I was only at it for a few months.

In December of 2019, I was faced with two options. Either re-start this blog, or cancel my domain subscription. I decided to give this blog another try. Today, thenewcanadians is no longer a business and career blog. It now covers additional content related to food, beauty and travel. Over the ten years, I travelled to several destinations and it is my hope to incorporate my travel journals into this blog.

My goal is to make thenewcanadians a balanced lifestyle blog that covers everything that inspires me in travel, food, work, career, business, beauty and lifestyle. I also aim to have guest posts from other Canadian immigrants sharing their experiences and journeys in discovering this wonderful country and its people. Every new Canadian immigrant brings with them different perspectives, outlook on life, and most of all, exciting ways of cooking. I hope to include them in this blog.

For the food portion of this blog, my inspiration comes from my mother-in-law and aunt who introduced me to Canadian food.  They lived together, and throughout their 80’s and 90’s, they have been cooking all kinds of recipes.  They have dozens and dozens of cookbooks, and each recipe is an adventure for them to try.  They mark the cookbook pages with post-it-notes and comments from their experience.  They hunger for new recipes, whether it is from a newspaper, magazine article, or a slip of paper passed by a friend.  When my mother-in-law passed away, I inherited her cookbooks, and boxes of index card recipes, many of them handwritten.

I welcome guest posts that may be of interest to my audience. I am also open to collaboration with brands that I adore and would use myself. Do you have a product or destination you think everyone needs to know about? Let’s chat! Drop me a line at thenewcanadians88 (at) gmail (dot) com.
