A “difficult-to-pronounce” or an “foreign-sounding name” did not stop Nazanin Afshin-Jam becoming famous in her adopted country of Canada.
Canadian-Iranian Immigrant Nazanin Afshin-Jam immigrated to Canada with her family at a young age of 2. Blessed with beauty and brains, she leveraged them with guts, ambition and vision to become a powerful and influential Canadian and international human rights activist. Her father was a tortured political prisoner in Iran, and thus Nazanin Afshin-Jan has made it her mission in life to advance humanity’s cause by promoting human rights.
Nazanin Afshin-Jam graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in International Relations and Political Science, and undertook scholarship studies at the prestigious Science Po in Paris and the International Study Center Herstmonceux Castle in England. After graduation she worked with the Red Cross as a Global Youth Educator, teaching on subjects of War and Poverty.
Trilingual (English, French and Persian), Nazanin Afshin-Jam is not only well-known as a international human rights activist, she is also a singer/songwriter, model/actress, pilot, and a former Miss World Canada.
Nazanin traveled worldwide representing many causes including helping victims of the tsunami in India and Sri Lanka, raising funds for the earthquake victims of Bam, supporting fistula patients in Ethiopia, fundraising for Variety the Children’s Charity,bridging the digital divide through youth advocacy and raising awareness on the practice of Bear Bile Farming in China.
