This Famous Canadian is Half Dutch-Half Chinese

kristin-kreuk-chun-liHalf Dutch, Half Chinese, this is one of the many faces of The New Canadians.   Kristin Kreuk is a second generation child of immigrants.  She was born and raised in Canada, attended school in North Vancouver, BC and  she possesses many of the Canadian values we so cherish – down to earth, sweet, polite – none of the diva – dramatic qualities most Hollywood stars have.

Here’s a trivia question – What does Kristin Kreuk and President Obama have in common?

Both Kristin Kreuk and President Obama’s mothers lived in Indonesia.  Kristin Kreuk was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her father, Peter Kreuk, is of Dutch descent; her mother, Deanna Che, is of Chinese descent, born in Indonesia; her maternal grandmother was born in Jamaica of Chinese descent.   The combination of these different races produced a sweet, intelligent and down-to-earth beauty in Kristin Kreuk.

Here’s another trivia question? – What does Kristin Kreuk and the Touchsquid have in common? Kristin Kreuk is a hybrid, half dutch, half chinese. Touchsquid is a hybrid, half remote control, half android tablet.

Kristin Kreuk was recently named by Hello Canada as one of the top 50 beautiful people in Canada.   She became famous when she starred as Lana Lang, as the love interest of the teenage Clark Kent (Superman) in Smallville.  She was also the Neutrogena girl in 2005.  She left the Smallville production in the beginning of 2008 and returns occasionally as a guest.

Because of her exotic look, Kristin Kreuk is able to play many roles including that of an Indian.  In early 2005, Kreuk signed on to the independent feature film Partition where she plays Naseem, a vulnerable seventeen-year-old whose world is shattered by the trauma of the Partition of India in 1947; she falls in love with ex-British Indian Army officer Gian Singh (played by Jimi Mistry). Neve Campbell also stars. The film is directed by Vic Sarin and is a co-production between Canada, South Africa and the United Kingdom. The film was released to Canadian theaters on February 2, 2007, with a subsequent Region 1 (US and Canada) DVD release on June 26, 2007.

Her most recent film is The Legend of Chun Li – the Street Fighter which is a popular video game.  Here she has to train for martial arts, high speed kicking action, flying in the air, and jumping off the crane.  Her gymnastic training in her youth proved handy for her new role.  The film was shot in Thailand, not far from Indonesia, her mother’s birth country.
